Alright, buckle up for some fantastic news! My absolute fave Traverse City spot, The Cooks’ House, and its amazing chefs, Eric Patterson and Jennifer Blakeslee, are James Beard Award FINALISTS! Huge deal – they’re the ONLY Michigan chefs in the running!
I’ve been a fan (and a frequent diner with my hubby!) for ages, and I even had the pleasure of photographing their headshots way back when. This week, I was thrilled to photograph their awesome staff for their awards submission. Got the sweetest texts from Eric (“You were a hero!”) and Jennifer (“Thank you for doing your magic. The photos are great!”).

For those who don’t know, Eric and Jen met cooking in Michelin-starred kitchens and brought their incredible talent back to Jen’s hometown. They focus on local, foraged ingredients, with Eric’s simpler style perfectly complementing Jen’s complex, globally-inspired flavors. Their little spot on Wellington is minimalist-chic, super welcoming (“clothes” is the dress code!), and the food is just so good!

I’m heading back to photograph Eric and Jen later this month for another part of their submission. So excited for them! They’ve built something truly special, and this James Beard recognition is SO deserved.
Cheering you on, the Cooks’ House! Go get that win!
